ABS Introduction to Coaching course, Saturday 26th May 2012

Amateur Boxing Scotland are holding the third Introduction to Coaching course on Saturday 26th May, 8.30am-5.00pm, at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell, ML1 2TZ.

The course is fully subscribed at this time, but places are not fully secured until payment has been received.

Can all of the following Clubs please send payment of £50 per place to James Docherty, ABS-Ltd, 5 Nasmyth Court, Houston Industrial Estate, Livingston, EH54 5EG, before the payment deadline of Tuesday 15th May 2012.

Ireland V Scotland – Cork 11-13 May 2012

Ireland will meet 17 of Scotland’s best 1996/1997 boxers at the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork on Saturday 12 May 2012.

“It promises to be a very competitive. Scotland are sending over a very talented looking team and we’re all looking forward to what should be a top-class international, ” said IABA Director of Boxing Dominic O’Rourke.

“I have no predictions. It will be a tough, hard international. Scotland always bring a tough team over here.It will be tough, but the boys  will be up for this competition.”

Residential Training – GB Senior Championship Team

ABS National Coach Mike Keane would like to remind all boxers selected to represent Scotland/ABS at the GB Senior Championships on 19-20 May 2012 of the pre-arranged Residential Training Camp being held at the Kingdom ABC Gym in Kirkcaldy this weekend.

Boxers are asked to be there for 10am sharp on Saturday 11 May 2012 and the camp will end at 12pm on Sunday 12 April 2012. If there are any problems with attending please contact Mike immediately on 07725100892. There will be no other Senior/Youth training held this weekend.

Development Squad Residential Camp and Training Update

Danny Lee, ABS Talent ID/Development Head of Coaching and Selection, has provided a comprehensive report on the Largs Residential Camp held on Friday 27th to Sunday 29th April 2012  and the Development team’s training on Saturday 5 May 2012 at the Forgewood gym, Motherwell.

The squad arrived between 16:30-17:30, Rooms were allocated for 24 ABS personnel , then a light lunch for all at 18:15

Session 1 – 19:30 – 21:00 Gym work, weight checked then 10-15 mins arm-up and stretch. School boxing and technique, bags/pads, 10-15 mins warm-down & stretch, weight checked.

Saturday 28th April 2012

An additional 8 development boxers arrived for a full day of training.

Session 2 – 07:00 – 08:00 Running, 10-15 mins warm-up and stretch, speed-endurance training, loosen down and stretch off.

Breakfast 08:15

Session 3 – 10:00 – 12:00 Gym work, weight checked then 10-15 mins warm-up and stretch. School boxing and technique, bags/pads & sparring, 10-15 mins warm-down & stretch, weight checked.

Lunch 12:30 and relax

Session 4 – 14:30 – 17:00 Gym work, weight checked then 10-15 mins warm-up and stretch. School boxing and technique, bags/pads & sparring, 10-15 mins warm-down & stretch, weight checked.

Dinner 18:15

Session 5 – 20:00 – 21:00 Gym work, weight checked then 10-15 mins warm-up and stretch. Shadow boxing/ technique, circuits, 10-15 mins warm-down & stretch, weight checked.

Session 6 – Running – The boxers reported at 06:50 for their run but this was cancelled.

Saturday 5th May 2012

This session was held at the Forgewood gym in Motherwell for the 16 development boxers training to box against Ireland on Saturday 12th May in Cork. During this session letters, strips & track-suits were also distributed.

10-15 mins warm-up and stretch.
School boxing/Technique.
Sparring
Bag work
Circuits
10-15 mins warm-down & stretch.
Weight checked.

Again this was a first class session and all boxers performed exceptionally well
