All boxers had their weight recorded on arrival then prepared for training with a warm up session of around fifteen minutes using the floor ladder. To make the most of the assembled group there was some quality sparring to be had for the youth boxers but unfortunately Connor Law twisted his back on the lead up to the sparring and had to sit out most of the session.
Bryce Stewart completed some good work with both Joe Ham and Michael Roberts. This was a good test for the youth boxer as he will come up against some of the best youths in the world in the next few weeks so doing some rounds with our elite seniors provided valuable experience for him.
The rest of the squad did some bag and pad work with the coaches advising them on what they wanted to see. Next up for sparring was Josh Taylor and Darren McGinn. This was a good spar with Taylor showing some very quick hand speed and McGinn defending well. The boys listened to what was required and employed the tactics during the spar.
The group finished off the day with a cardio workout followed by a a long stretching session. It was good to get the group together and there will be further sessions arranged for all the boxers that will be going to both the Gee Bee trip and the World Youth Championships. Hugh Gray and Kieran Smith were not able to attend this session as they were in Sheffield at a GB Youth assessment.
The training was on the verge of being cancelled on Sunday because as an individual decided to send one of the District coaches a text message from the number 07977 588162 saying that the training had been called off and the coaches and boxers should be contacted to let them know.
This was a futile attempt to disrupt National Squad training as the only people that would have suffered would have been the boxers. Details of any future training and the invited boxers will be posted on this site.
