In November 2004, sportscotland , in partnership with UK Sport and the other three home country sports councils, launched the Equity Standard: A Framework for Sport (the Standard). This is a framework that can be used by governing bodies of sport to help them mainstream equity into their functions, and ensure that people are being treated fairly and given equality of opportunities throughout their sport. It will also help governing bodies to ensure that they are meeting their legal obligations in relation to equity.

The Standard will assist and guide organisations to develop a meaningful long term plan for equity, and to achieve real organisational success and improvement in achieving equity and promoting diversity.

Organisations work through the four levels of the Standard, and are assessed by trained Equity Standard Advisers at the end of each level. Once an organisation has achieved a level of the Standard, it receives a certificate of accreditation, and is entitled to use the Equity Standard logo on its publication materials and in its communications.

The Standard has been endorsed by a range of key agencies including the Women’s Sports Foundation, Sporting Equals, the English Federation of Disability Sport and the CCPR.

Currently ABS Ltd is working with sportscotland to achieve the Equity Standard Foundation level. Part of this work is to publish a draft strategy on the ABS website to allow members to comment on the draft policy – this can be found via the following link

Travel went as planned arrived Etap Hotel around 4.00pm Sunday the 18th.

The first training session was just our boys

Monday 19th 7.30am Interval run, 3×3 mins 30 second changes from jog to sprint. Then at 4.00pm trained with the G.B team, consisting of 6 x 3 min rounds technical spar i.e. boxers only allowed to throw one punch at a time, changing theme each round.

Ross Henderson had an open spar with Simon Viallily but unfortunately damaged his nose after one round and although Ross tried he couldn’t continue due to breathing problems caused by the damaged nose.

Tuesday 20th 7.30 am – E.I.S running track 5min run sessions x 3 with 1 min walk in between looking to run the 200 metre track in under 50 seconds . This was followed by a plyometric session. At 11.00am the boxers split into two groups – the lighter boys did the strength and conditioning and the other group a light gym session (shadow boxing), then changed over. At 2.30pm the boys took part in an open sparring session except Iain Butcher (too light) and Ross (sore nose) – all over 4 x 3 mins rounds. Pads x3,and bags x3 rounds

Wednesday 21st 7.30am – Outside running track which has a fairly steep hill at one end the boys had a hard session with most the work done on the hill sprinting up and jogging down the hill = sore legs!

11.00am – Strength and conditioning session split into the two groups with the other group doing a light gym session.

2.30pm Gym session, open sparring for all that was ok, 3 x 3 mins then bags and shadow boxing followed by a grip session then 5 mins skip to finish off.

Thursday 22nd 7.30am - E.I.S running track running session with a strongman type session mixed in i.e split into group A and group B. Group A did two laps of track while group B did strength work and then changed over they did this 12 times.

10.00am gym session 4 x 3 mins round of technical sparring 2 x 3 mins on bags.

Departed Sheffield around 11.30 am.

Quotes from the boxers included – Callum Johnston ” Some great sparring in preparation for the games, the Vasilitys are second to non and we benifited from using them” and Stephen Simmons ” The camp in Sheffield was great for the boys who mixed in well and trained with the GB boys in all the sessions. I think it was a good eye opener for them and great sparring was enjoyed by all”
